3 Reasons Why Self-Decision-Making is so important.
Hello there, I hope if the title brought you to this article, it’s pretty much possible you are also trying to figure out how to actually take calls when it’s a bit difficult to choose from. In this article, I am just writing down what I learned after taking a few important decisions by myself. Yes, I have just entered my 30s and even now, it’s more than often I seek help from others to make choices, related to my career, finance, and even personal choices, like which shirt/ blazer to buy or not. Is my 3-year-old Apple Watch still fine, or is it time to upgrade it? Well, as lame as it sounds, somewhere or the other, making decisions is an inevitable part of our life. From small day-to-day choices to big, life-changing ones, we all face them at some point. While seeking advice and guidance from others can be helpful, it is important to remember the value of making decisions on your own.
In recent times, I have shifted my principle of making choices and improved my ability to take a stand in my decisions. and this brings me to our very first reason why Self-Decision making is crucial:
Taking responsibility for your own decisions empowers you.
When you make a choice, you are taking control of your life and making the most of the opportunities available to you. You are no longer waiting for someone else to tell you what to do or relying on them to make decisions for you. By taking the reins, you are demonstrating to yourself and others that you are capable and confident. And it won't be wrong to say that confidence is the key element to leading a successful and independent life. And this brings me to my second reason to cultivate, self-decision-making
Self-decision-making fosters independence.
This independence, allows you to think for yourself, form your own opinions, and develop your own unique perspective. This is essential for personal growth and development, and it helps you become more self-sufficient and resilient.
When you make decisions for yourself, you also have the freedom to make choices that align with your values and goals. You are not beholden to someone else’s opinions or influenced by their priorities. This means that you are more likely to make decisions that you are truly happy. Also since it’s you who chose it, you are less likely to blame someone else, in case things don't turn out the way you expected. I mean, personally, too, there are several times, I find myself, when I followed someone else’s decisions and end up losing, I might not put it upfront, but somewhere deep down, I used to get a feeling why I even followed in the first place. This feeling eventually, creates a gap and distances you from that relationship, with this here is my third equally critical reason for practicing self-decision-making and that is :
self-decision making can improve your relationships
And finally, When you take responsibility for your own choices, you are showing others that you are trustworthy and reliable. You are also setting a positive example for those around you and demonstrating that it is possible to make informed and confident decisions.
All I would want to summarise is that taking decisions by yourself is a critical aspect of personal growth and development. It empowers you, fosters independence, aligns with your values and goals, and improves relationships. So, next time you face a decision, remember to take the time to reflect, gather information, and make the best choice for you.
